Our Topic this term is...
What have we been learning?
- In Writing lessons, we are beginning a unit on Explanation texts. We are familiarising ourselves with their structure, key features and language.
- In Maths, we are learning about Time and we have been recalling different units of time and converting between these units. We are also solving problems involving time.
- In Science, we are starting a unit on Electricity. We will be learning about circuits and we will be planning and carrying out experiements, by testing what happens when we add more wires, bulbs or batteries to a circuit.
- To build on our comprehension skills and ability to make inferences, we have been retrieving and interpreting pictures, film trailers and video shorts. We have also been thinking about the choices made by the people who created these and why they may have made them.
Next week we are starting whole class guided reading and we will be looking at different forms of poetry.
Key information and dates for Beech Class
P.E. is on Wednesday with Mrs Warren and Thursday with Active Trowbridge (see curriculum letter). Children must have their P.E. kits with them on these days (including indoor and outdoor footwear). Beech Class are also doing 'Morning Movement' exercise before school on Wednesday.
All children need to have an apron in school for art lessons, so they are able to fully take part in activities. It does not need to be expensive and can be an old shirt of their parents or an oversized shirt bought from a charity shop. Shirts are better than T-shirts, because the sleeves cover their arms.
Homework is handed out on Friday and must be handed in on the following Wednesday. Children now have login details for 'Times Table Rockstars' (https://ttrockstars.com) and are expected to be using this website to practise all x and ÷ facts up to 12 x 12. They can also use the following website:
This term the school has begun using 'Purple Mash' an educational website. I will be using this frequently to set homework.
Showcase - thank you to everyone who attended Beech Class's final showcase of the year. The mosaics are looking great - they will all be up in the classroom soon - feel free to pop into the classroom after school to see your family masterpieces!
