Beech Class - Year 4
Welcome to Beech Class!!!
We are a class of Year 4 pupils.
Our Topic this term is...
What have we been learning?
- In Reading we have started our guided reading text for this term, which is 'The Theives of Ostia' by Caroline Lawrence. We have enjoyed the beginning, as it has allowed us to already gain an understanding of the characters. We have been working on forming our opinion about a character and finding evidence from the text that supports it.
- In Writing, we have just finished retelling the myth of Romulus and Remus, by reading the story, picking out the key events and creating freeze frames to depict what happens. Our freeze frames were very good and were then used to create a storyboard, where we then retold the myth in our own writing. (Our freeze frames are below.)
- In Maths we have been comparing and ordering decimals, as well as learning to round decimals to the nearest whole number.
- In History we have been learning about the Iron Age Celts, who were living in Britain before the Romans invaded. Next we will be learning about when the Romans invaded and what this was like for the Celtic tribes.
Key information and dates for Beech Class
P.E. is on Wednesday with Mrs Warren and Thursday with Miss Perrett (see curriculum letter). Children must have their P.E. kits with them on these days (including indoor and outdoor footwear). Beech Class are also doing a run around our school as often as possible to improve our personal fitness and stamina.
All children need to have an apron in school for art lessons, so they are able to fully take part in activities. It does not need to be expensive and can be an old shirt of their parents or an oversized shirt bought from a charity shop. Shirts are better than T-shirts, because the sleeves cover their arms.
Homework is handed out on Friday and must be handed in on the following Wednesday. Homework might be stuck in homework books, be given out on a separate sheet, or could be set on Purple Mash. Homework is explained to all children before the go home on Friday and is linked to learning that has been covered in lessons. In addition to the homeworek set weekly, children are expected to be reading regularly at home and have reading races to complete when they do this. As well as reading, children should be regularly be practicing the times tables they have learned in school. In year 4, children have been taught all of the times tables, so we are reviewing some of them now. So far Beech Class have revisited the 4s and the 6s and now we are on the 8s. Every day there is a 4 minute times table test which includes 40 calculations!!! We are doing really well though!
Reports - reports will go out on Friday 21st June. If you would like to book an appointment to see Miss Perrett in the week following this, please see her after school on Monday 24th June to arrange this.
Showcase - Beech Class's showcase for this term will be on Friday 5th of July at 2.15pm. It will be outside and dependent on the weather, so keep an eye on messages from school near the time, as the date might change.
