Elm Class - Year 2
Welcome to Elm Class!
Welcome to our page! We are a very enthusiastic class of Year 2 learners. This term our topic is called 'Tin Hats and Trenches' and we will be finding out all about World War One which ended 100 years ago. We will be thinking about what it was like for the soldiers who fought and understanding why it is so important that we remember them so many years later. We will be writing war letters, diaries and poems and learning lots of songs that were popular at the time. Thank you so much to all the parents and Autumn Leaves members who attended our showcase and sang along with us. We all had a lovely time!
Learning of the Week
This week we have been thinking about Edith Cavell who was a famous nurse during World War 1. We have used the internet and non-fiction books to find out all about her life. We will be writing biographies about her so we are learning how to organise our facts into paragraph groups. We will also be thinking about how most people remember her as a heroine, but why some people thought of her as a criminal.
This week we will also be using our history skills to sequence tanks and planes and we will be thinking about how technology has changed the way wars are fought. We will learn how to program robots to follow simple sequences of instructions. We will be working in groups to design our own tanks which we will then construct.
