Welcome to Elm Class

We are a very enthusiastic class of Year 2 learners.  This term our topic is called 'The Wind in the Willows' and is of course based on the lovely story by Kenneth Grahame.  We visited Brokerswood to explore one of the settings in the story.  It wasn't as scary as The Wild Wood and we learnt lots of new skills.  Have a look at some photos from our trip. Our learning showcase will be held on Monday 3rd July at 2:15 when your children will take you on a nature trail around the school.  We hope to see you there!

Learning of the Week

  • This week we are thinking about Mr Toad.  We are developing explanations about the life cycle of the toad and learning the technical language we will need to use.
  • We had an amazing debate about whether Mr Toad should have been sent to prison for his crimes.  The children were able to explain and justify their opinions well, using our sentence stems.
  • In science, we are working hard with Mrs Bartlett to learn about food chains.
  • In art, we have been inspired by Andy Goldsworthy.  We used natural materials to make collages representing The Wild Wood.
  • We are preparing our nature trails for our learning showcase.  We have already drawn maps of the school grounds and decided on some interesting places to show our mums and dads.
